I am sure everyone is talking about kale. It has surpassed coconut oil, chia, and acai to become the latest and greatest on trend superfood. Whilst I do think Kale has a fantastic nutritional profile and has many health benefits my clinical practice has shown this superfood to be the cause of many digestive problems. A few of my ultra healthy clients who have been onto the kale trend have presented with bloating, flatulence and digestive discomfort. When eaten RAW, Kale can be extremely difficult to break down. The solution????? If you want to eat this ‘superfood’ and delicious green please do your digestive system a favour.. Either marinate your kale for 24 hours (Olive Oil, Lemon Juice, Apple Cider Vinegar, Salt and Pepper) or lightly steam it for a few minutes before your eat it… Once my clients switched up the way they ate their Kale the bloating subsided… (This rule goes the same for broccoli).
